Planning for our Digipak

Dimensions of a Digipak

The Digi-pack is an extremely versatile packaging. It can be made to accommodate a booklet either by placing in a die-cut slot or gluing onto one of the panels. There can be several different designs of Digipaks, the artist will choose what they would like their digipak to be like and what individually reflects them as an artist. In addition, the panels can be increased from 4 to 6, 8 or more. The DVD Digi-pack is also a popular alternative to the DVD box. It is now widely used for feature film DVD releases which are special editions because it increases the value and creates a premium product.
- Artist's name
- Visual imagery
- Track listing
- Reviews, album rating, newspapers, magazines etc.
- Examples of lyrics
- Credits, productions etc.
- Record label
- Barcode and price
- Information about artist
A 6 panel digipak consists of the following measurements:
MYTH - Conventions of a Digipak - Ellie Mannix

The digipak for the artist ‘Myth’ uses many of the conventions of a digipak. Firstly, the artists name is in a font that is associated with him, used widely across his products and songs. This is conventional of a digipak as his fans and the consumers can easily recognise the artist. This digipak also uses a wide range of visuals; there are three different pictures, one on the sleeve, one in the middle with the track list, and another one on one of the panels, which is also on the cd. The pictures are all similar in look, just different angles and shots. They relate to the artist and the genre of music.
On the same panel as the track list, which is another convention of a digipak, as it informs the consumer of which tracks are on the c.d, there is also a review next to a picture. From the use of reviews, it encourages the sales and marketing, as going by a recommendation, people are more inclined to by the c.d.
MGMT Digipak - Bridget Long

The MGMT digipak reflects what the band is like, by using unusual styles and images. The digipak consists of the typical conventions including visual imagery, the artist's name, the record label and the barcode and price. i particularly like this album cover and digioak as it contains a lot of information about the artist inside and uses an unusal style to hold the cd. this makes the digipak ore original and will encourage people to buy their album rather than downloading it.
Oasis Digipak Example - Sinead Makins
I have researched into some digipak examples and have chosen to choose the Oasis digipak below. They use a variety of the conventions used to make a digipak successful.

As well as on the front the album name, band name and the record label s on the spine of the digipak, so if the Cd's are stacked in stores instead of picking up the CD the Customers will find it simpler to just read the spine of the digipak. When the band perform their main instruments they use are the guitar so on the album cover there is a picture of a guitar that only shows the bottom half, which relates to the convention of visual images. On the back of the digipak contains the track listing, a visual image of the top half of the guitar which shows the bands creativity as they split the guitar in half. Also on the back is the bar code used for scanning when customers buy the album. There is a bit of background information in the top left corner of the back of the digipak which is also another convention. there is also the website in small print at the bottom. Inside, where the CD is attached shows the track listing again, which saves time for the customer closing the digipak to search for a specific song track number. overall, the colouring of this digipak works well as they are all of similar shades and although a variety of colour is good no other colour would be needed on this as it would be out of place. The use of different font and font size is effective as the most important text stands out the most e.g. band name.

Digipak's and the Conventions
Our ancillary task is to create a digipak for our music video 'knock em out!'. A digipak is is a CD cover/case which contains the CD with tracks on and this will enable the viewers to buy Robyn's songs. The digipak is used for advertising as well as selling the record and the artist. In order to make a digipak successful it should contain the following conventions.
Conventions of the Digipak:
• The visuals are a key process to the production - which must include:
- Images of the artist
- Shots from concerts
- Instruments
- Props, etc
• To make the brand easily identified the artists name and the album name must be included of the Digipak. This can be included at the front of the Digipak as well as the spine of the main cover.
• A list of songs must be included so the buyers are aware of what songs will be included in the track. However, if the product were for a DVD it would be good to include the scene selection.
• Basic information of the artist, such as background information, type of music etc.
• Reviews from newspapers are often printed to increase and encourage more sales and marketing.
• Bar code placed on the Digipak someone so it ca be scanned for a price when customers by the album.
• Bonus track and information
• Record label and artist website
• Artist/Band awards
• Use of colour
